Actress, author, and film director
Aïssa Maïga is an actress, author, and director.
Alongside her career in theater and film, Aïssa initiated the manifesto-style book Noire n’est pas mon métier (“Being Black Is Not My Profession”), published by Éditions du Seuil in 2018. In this collection of testimonies, sixteen Black and mixed-race French actresses share their experiences in French film, theater, and television.
Aïssa continues her quest for greater inclusion and parity with the co-direction, alongside Isabelle Simeoni, of the film Regard Noir (“Black Gaze”). A documentary road movie filmed in the United States, Brazil, and France, it explores the issue of diversity in fiction and its impact on society, and was released in 2021.
